VIXX‘ music style and image have undergone quite some changes throughout their almost 2 years as a unit. Today, we are continuing our current special edition of the group and take you on a journey through loads of supernatural concepts and guyliner.
Please note: One of our featured music videos (Voodoo Doll) contains mature content.
In May 2012, they made their debut with the track “Super Hero”, accompanied by a bright music video that shows the guys expressing their need to say “trust me, I will protect you”. The song is very repetitive and therefore easy to memorize. Another thing to look out for is their “V.I.X.X” choreography in the beginning, which is something their leader “N” came up with.

For their second single “ROCK UR BODY”, they have kept their light image, portraying video game characters that Sistar’s Dasom sees through a game machine. What is easy to remember about this song are the 8-bit sounds in the beginning that make you think you are currently playing an old Super Mario game.
Now we get to the concept VIXX is well-known for. Many idol groups sport the cute concept, but there are not many of them transforming to the “dark side”. These young men however did not fear the change and decided to go for a darker concept, like for example in “hyde”. We can see the members struggling with a second personality within themselves who wants to kill their girlfriend. And, well, in the end, they “just can’t control”. The concept of Jekyll and Hyde, however, is pretty fascinating, and also reflected in the choreography in which three members are the bad half of the other three. If you have time, you should definitely look up one of their live performances!
The follow-up promotion to “hyde”, however, belonged yet again to the “light and bright song genre”. “대.다.나.다.너 (G.R.8.U)” tells the story of a man who falls in love so hard that he himself doesn’t know „Why am I like this”. Big parts of the MV were shot backwards to create a unique effect for the final result. This song is something to lighten up your mood after feeling depressed about the fact that these boys have just killed their girlfriends in “hyde”.
For the song “여자는 왜 (Girls, why?)“ they have come together with the female singer duo OKDAL for a heartwarming song about the misunderstandings that can come up during a relationship due to one’s pride.
In November 2013, VIXX have released their latest single “저주인형 (Voodoo Doll)” accompanied by a full-length album. This time they turned into voodoo dolls that are tormented for entertainment. The track is catchy as always and shows the music style that has become their very own style now, something that people also recognize as theirs. The video however is where things get a bit ugly. As there is a clean and an explicit version, we will post both here. The first one will be the clean version.
Again, if you do not feel comfortable with the display of violence, please refrain from watching this video as it contains mature content!
These are by far not all MVs by these boys, so if you got interested in them, there is a lot of other material yet to be checked out. Do you have a favourite song by VIXX? If yes, was it included in this list?
