[en] Interview with Home Made Asia: On their way to ‘K-pop Festival in Gangwon 2013′

Two Hungarian Asia Fans decided to create a Hungarian band where singers and dancers are representing and popularizing the Asian culture and music. This is how Home Made Asia was born. Since then we are broadcasting an online media TV channel on YouTube where the Hungarian people can get in touch with the Asian music and cultural programs. Kpopeurope had the chance to interview them before they went to Korea, by end of September.

Kpopeurope: Long time no see! How was it going after the K-pop dance festival in Vienna? What were you doing?

DV: We proceeded. We prepared a Hungarian cover of 2 K-pop songs, had 2 big concerts and received the opportunity to participate in the Finals of the ‘K-pop Festival in Gangwon 2013’ competition. The last period was dense but effective.

PHU: Well, since the competition in Vienna i went through a lot of things, as I started to work. You can think… I do not have time to go to the hairdresser anymore. 😀 We are rehearsing a lot, unfortunately I couldn’t dance much because of my strict working schedule but I try my very best to catch up to my teammates. This is a great progress in the History of Home Made Asia that we are going to participate in the Finals in Korea.

NADI: Many things happened since the Contest in Vienna. We cried and laughed a lot. Trained a lot to improve our team’s skills. Started new projects and we had several concerts too. And also the most important thing… we prepared our dance cover what helped us to fly to South Korea.

Kpopeurope: Sounds awesome! Are you already packing for Korea? When are you guys going?

VINI: Slowly… very slowly… I am really looking forward to this trip as it will be an awesome adventure for us. ;))) Soon it is 24th of September… this is the date when we are going to leave Hungary to South Korea.

WICKY: Well… I have 2 days left. I am going to leave 1 week before the others. Filming in Seoul for 6 days, so we can share the experience with our audience. I am a bit afraid. A new World. My Dream World. Still… WOW… I can’t wait to be there. 2 days left… NOTHING PACKED 😀 I think I am going to panic soon 🙂

BREEGTH: No packing… yet. But, we bought almost everything what will be needed in Korea. Our plane is going to take off on the 24th of September.

Kpopeurope: How did you get the chance to go to Korea? What did you perform?

WICKY: We knew that we want to participate in a dancing contest, and this so called ‘K-pop festival in Gangwon’ announced a Hungarian Semi-Final. So what could be better? 🙂 Let’s do it! We decided the song; I went to the studio and recorded the singing. We danced to Boa’s Only One song. So in the end we recorded a dancing and singing full cover. As a result of the Budapest Semi-Final we had the opportunity to go Wonju to the Finals. We are very very thankful.

BREEGTH: We decided to participate. Firstly we advanced to the Semifinals and now we are travelling to the Finals. I am very grateful for this opportunity. Of course we are going to dance the same song in Korea too. It is Boa’s Only One.

NADI: Participated in the ‘K-pop Festival in Gangwon’ Competition what was a very hard and challenging contest for us. Before the online audition, we sat together and discussed that we have to pick a song that fits our team and also what is very appealing. The right choice was Boa’s Only One song. It was a hard song to learn but we never ever thought that we made a wrong choice. Actually it was a great one 🙂

Kpopeurope: What are you expecting in Korea?

DV: We try to prepare well, but we do not know what we can expect in Korea. We are going to arrive into an unfamiliar world. We just had just few insights of how life is going in eastern Asia. It will be a fabulous opportunity for us. I can’t wait to be there! We hope that we can be successful and helps us to become more popular.

VINI: Many many experience and lots of nice people… as the K-pop is originated from Korea, we are very happy to stay in the country for 1 week. We are going to compete against 13 groups, but I know that our team is going to respect every person and I hope that it will be a big family.

CASS: I am looking forward to an awesome experience of a lifetime feeling… and I think… it will become reality.

Kpopeurope: Was it difficult to perform?

WICKY: For me, yes. As I am not a dancer but a singer, dancing was a small obstacle for me 🙂 But I could jump it … successfully. When I am on stage, I am totally into the song itself. Nothing matters, just the feeling when you express yourself with your voice…with your body. It was not hard. I had faith in my team.

PHU: The Semi-Final itself was not difficult as the team was dancing on 110%. This was a real teamwork and a very good result… especially when you compare it to the Contest in Vienna.

CASS: The choreography is not that easy as it seems. It has many spectacular parts too as the man-woman dance or the ‘tutting’ part at the end when we are just composing our dance moves with our hands. And of course…. Specialty: Wicky is singing the song!

Kpopeurope: What and when was your first contact with dance?

PHU: Last year I was auditioned to HMA as a dancer https://phonelookupbase.com , and since then I am dancing in this group. Before I could learn dancing from many famous Hungarian dancers.

BREEGTH: I was a little girl when I started to dance. Thanks to my mom, who took me to my first hip-hop class. This was my 7th birthday present. Since then… dancing is my life.

CASS: We started to learn this choreography in May and I just suddenly found myself in the group. I was not auditioned for Home Made Asia. They found me, and I joined 🙂 In the beginning it was very hard to find the harmony between the 7 very different personality but at the end, it became a great performance.

Kpopeurope: How did you become K-pop cover dancers?

BREEGTH: 3 years ago my friends showed me the K-pop fever. And as I started to listen to the songs more and more I totally felt under the spell. I became a cover dancer through the Home Made Asia group, and I never regretted that I joined the group. Never 🙂

NADI: 1 year ago we saw the audition video of Home Made Asia. We thought that this can be a great opportunity, we tried it, and since then we are fighting for our dreams …day after day… . For me… K-pop cover dancing was a very new experience, but I think that my body is getting used to it 🙂 I love to dance these choreographies as this time I can dance on the songs I am listening to every day.

WICKY: Ha-ha… I am not a dancer 🙂

Kpopeurope: What does the Korean culture mean to you and do you speak Korean?

WICKY: The Korean Culture and Music is now the most important hobby for me. As a singer, the Korean Music life is an oasis. These singers are fabulous. Trained. High Quality. I also envy the respect of the Korean Culture. They still know how to respect other people. This is exemplary. I started to learn Korean 1 year ago, and now I am able to read and speak the language almost on a basic level.

DV: I consider every Asian culture equally important. Everything interests me. I didn’t have much time to learn about Korean Culture, so I am so very happy for this trip. I am curious. A great experience. I cannot speak Korean, but maybe one day, I will learn it. 🙂

VINI: For me the Korean culture is very interesting and amusing. The language itself is very funny and beautiful at the same time. Like people talking in doramas and how they perform. Hopefully one of our member, Wicky, can speak the Korean language a bit. Respect to her! In the near future I also try to learn 1 or 2 words in Korean…. 🙂

NADI: If 5 years ago someone is telling me that I am going to be in love with the Korean and Asian Culture I would laugh at him. 😀 But… I found myself napping on the little island of the doramas and with this … the Music itself. This was 3 years ago, and since then I am interested in Asia. I find it very particular. I look up to the Idols that they are fighting for their dreams for long years and succeed. I want to be a part of this dream… Live in Korea as a Dancer. I am fighting with all my might to do what I really want to love. Wicky is learning the Korean language, and me and BreeGth have just started. It is much easier that I thought 🙂 I want to learn it, and make a language exam.

Kpopeurope: What projects do you have coming up after Korea? What are you concentrating on?

DV: The show must go on! We have many plans that we have to do, so we started the preparations. We are recruiting new members, and hopefully they will make the group more powerful and colourful. I think we are going to focus on the new dance and song covers.

WICKY: Well… we are going to expand. We recruited new members, so we will start to work with them. Continue to film our ‘daily life’ and broadcast it to the public on our YouTube channel. As the manager and the ‘mom’ of the group I have high responsibility. I will start to teach the members to some useful things as ‘Speaking’, ‘Acting’, ‘Behaving’ and some ‘Korean language’ too. We are going to create a harmony among ourselves. This is the base of our family. Friendship!

CASS: When we come back we are going to work and train more to be able to create so many covers.

Kpopeurope: So wish you good luck for the competition in Korea, all the best!

All together: Thank you !

The interview was recorded in September, before the group headed to the ‘K-pop Festival in Gangwon 2013’. Keep track and let’s see how they performed in the next interview!
